Growing your wedding photography business can definitely have its challenges. It may leave you feeling zapped, frustrated and may be even wanting to call it quits. First know, you aren’t alone, I know I have felt all those emotions too! Despite these emotions and what is always feeling like an ever growing saturated market, nothing should stop you from doing what you can to stand out and market to your ideal client! So this post is all about awesome marketing ideas for wedding photographers! (If you want some help defining your ideal client check this out)
lets set the standard first
I first want to address this! I’m not sure why my posts to photographers always begin with disclaimers haha, but here I am π I’m going to tell you, don’t ever approach this marketing effort expecting anything. I want you to be genuinely interested. I want you to view it as creating community and finding ways to serve others. Doing this genuinely and without the attitude of expectation will serve you so much better. Being genuine and serving others always gives back 10x more than being just out for number one. It will also alleviate any frustration for any efforts that aren’t producing immediate results. Because growth takes time. So give it time. Be consistent. Be genuine. Don’t give up.
8 Awesome Marketing Ideas for Wedding Photographers
Ok are ya ready for today’s meat?! So, these marketing ideas are all about networking with other vendors in the area to grow your wedding photography business! What’s better than you telling the world about your business? Having others in the industry tell the world too! PLUS I’m going to give you ideas on how to network with both vendors you have worked with and vendors you have not worked with! Hold on to your hats, here we go:
4 Ideas if you’ve not worked with them:
Connect via Instagram! Hello I know you’re on the gram. Follow, like, comment, send them a message and say hi! Go to their website and check out their about page to see if y’all have anything in common! Connect with them as a human and fellow wedding vendor. (PS Come say hi to me on the Gram!)
Meet up and buy them coffee! I guess in some ways you can kind of think of this process like dating. Because if your conversation seems to be going well on IG or LinkedIn, then offer to buy them some coffee and hang and chat all things wedding! Or the last season of the Bachelor- I mean whatever floats your boat.
Plan a styled shoot! This automatically creates connections with other vendors. They’ll be sharing your images of all the gorgeous work you collaborate on. You’ll get to know one another better. They’ll have first hand experience of working with you. They’re a great way to vendor network! If you want some tips on planning a styled shoot, click here.
Offer to feature these vendors/venues on your blog to help increase their exposure. Not only does this help serve the other vendor, but it also serves your brides as you are helping them locate resources that are super helpful to them. Everyone wins.
4 Ideas if you have worked with them:
Create and print a small book featuring their work for them to show off to their clients with photos youβve taken. This company is great for that! Guess what not only are you showing off their work, but you’re showing off yours.
Send vendors web size images to use for their website/social media. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard venues/vendors tell me they feel like they’re begging photographers for images! That’s crazy. Create their own folder in your online hosting gallery, and send them that folder of images for them to use! I use Pic-Time and it is PERFECT for being able to send vendors their own folder of images without sending the entire gallery of images. If you’d like to try Pic-Time you can use this code for a free month! Woo woo! Code: RKNMQD
Send vendors a little email and a $5 gift card for coffeeΒ on you! Thank them for the pleasure of working so well along side of you to create a beautiful day of images. And then send a little virtual gift card for Starbucks Coffee. I mean come on, who doesn’t love Starbucks? You’ll stick out in their mind, and seriously y’all, just what a kind gesture. Imagine if someone did that for you.
Tag them in all social media posts once you work with them! You guys… if you’re not tagging your vendors on social, then hop. to. it. Follow them, love on them, and tag them! Not only will they possibly share the photo right to their social, but you’re increasing your discoverability on the social platform because your photo will pop up on their tagged images on IG or feed on Facebook.
