Whitaker & Holden’s Romantic Summer Wedding at Berkeley Hall Club

There are wedding days that are beautiful from beginning to end—and then there are wedding days where the beauty goes so much deeper than what you can see.

Whitaker and Holden’s August wedding at Berkeley Hall Club was both.

Set beneath the oaks on a warm summer day in the Lowcountry, their Berkeley Hall Club wedding was filled with romantic color, beautiful Southern scenery, and so many thoughtful, personal touches woven throughout. Soft pinks, rich maroon, and layers of green felt perfectly at home against the beautiful grounds of Berkeley Hall Club, creating a celebration that felt refined and romantic while still incredibly warm and personal.

A Wedding Morning at Berkeley Hall Club Filled With Meaning

The day began with all of those little pieces that quietly set the tone for everything to come.

Whitaker chose a beautiful satin drop-waist wedding gown—a silhouette that felt classic and fashion-forward all at once. Paired with the florals, colors, and thoughtful details she had selected, everything came together in a way that felt romantic, polished, and completely her.

But one of the most meaningful pieces of her wedding wardrobe wasn’t new at all.

Whitaker had her grandmother’s wedding dress with her, and we made time during the day to create portraits of her wearing it. There was something incredibly special about seeing a new bride step into a dress that had already witnessed the beginning of another love story generations before.

And Whitaker had an even sweeter surprise planned for later.

Bride and Groom Portraits Around Berkeley Hall Club

One of my favorite things about photographing a wedding at Berkeley Hall Club is the variety of beautiful Lowcountry scenery we have to work with throughout the day.

For Whitaker and Holden’s portraits, we created a mix of classic photographs that will always have a place in a wedding gallery alongside the softer, connected moments that happen when the two of them simply settle into being together.

On a warm August afternoon, the greens throughout Berkeley Hall Club were lush and full, creating such a beautiful backdrop for the romantic color palette of the day.

It’s always important to me that the setting feels like part of the story without ever becoming more important than the people in it. The landscape, light, and architecture of Berkeley Hall Club create the atmosphere—but Whitaker and Holden’s connection is what gives the photographs their meaning.

A Berkeley Hall Club Wedding Ceremony Beneath the Oaks

Whitaker and Holden’s ceremony took place in the beautiful gardens at Berkeley Hall Club, beneath the sweeping Lowcountry oak trees.

It could not have felt more quintessentially Southern.

The branches created a natural frame around the ceremony while the surrounding gardens brought softness and layers of green to the scene. It felt elegant without being overly formal and grand while still feeling intimate—a truly beautiful setting for Whitaker and Holden to gather the people they loved and say their vows.

It’s easy to understand why couples are drawn to an outdoor wedding ceremony at Berkeley Hall Club. The landscape already brings so much atmosphere to the day, while still leaving room for the couple and their story to remain at the center of it all.

A Very Special First Dance at Berkeley Hall Club

Later in the celebration came one of my favorite moments of the entire wedding day.

For her first dance with her dad, Whitaker changed into her grandmother’s wedding dress.

Her grandmother didn’t know it was coming.

Watching her realize that her granddaughter was dancing in her wedding gown was one of those moments you simply couldn’t manufacture. Her delight was immediate, and the meaning behind it made an already emotional tradition feel even more special.

It was a beautiful reminder of how many stories are actually present on a wedding day.

The stories of the people who raised them, the marriages that came before theirs, family traditions, friendships, memories, and tiny pieces of history being carried forward into something new.

A Berkeley Hall Club Wedding Story Told in Layers

That was what made Whitaker and Holden’s Berkeley Hall Club wedding feel so special.

Yes, it was visually beautiful—the satin drop-waist gown, romantic florals, rich summer colors, incredible grounds, and oak-covered ceremony setting made sure of that.

But the heart of this wedding was in the personal touches and meaningful moments woven between all of those beautiful things.

And that’s ultimately what I want a wedding gallery to preserve.

The sweeping scene beneath the oaks and the expression on your loved ones faces.

The carefully chosen details and the completely unplanned reactions.

The portraits you’ll frame and the fleeting moments you didn’t even realize were happening.

All of those pieces belong together.
